5 Healthy Snack Ideas for After School That Won't Break the Bank!

When your kid comes home after school, it is a great time for them to relax, or play with their friends.

After-school time is also an excellent time to give them some extra nourishiment, in the form of an after-school snack. If you need some ideas on how to make a healthy and nutritious after-school snack, RecipeLion has got you covered with these five things you can make for a nutritious after-school snack.

Two things to keep in mind when choosing a nutritious after-school snack are:
Keep your kitchen stocked with a variety of easy, healthy snacks. Avoid keeping potato chips, high-fat cookies and other unhealthy snack foods in the house.

A heathy snack adds something to your child's diet, such as fiber, protein, vitamins or minerals.

And here are five healthy ideas for after-school snacking:

Light Popcorn: Popcorn is high in fiber and when you buy the light version, like Newman's Own Light Butter Microwave Popcorn, fat isn't an issue. Light microwave popcorn is extrememly easy to make and enjoy.

Frozen Grapes: Buy a pound of seedless grapes and wash them and place a handful of grapes into several sandwich-sized freezer bags, then place in the freezer. Once the grapes are frozen, they have the same consistency as a popsicle. Your kid will love these frozen grape treats!

Veggies and Dip: Vegetables and dip are a good alternative to chips and dip. Carrot sticks, broccoli, cauliflower, celery and snap peas all make perfect snacks and chip dip, veggie dip, nacho cheese dip and dressings like ranch all make awesome vegetable dips.

Pretzels: Pretzels make excellent kid snacks. Both original and pretzel sticks offer a great taste. If you want to go the healthy route, buy whole-wheat pretzels. Whole-wheat pretzels offer more nutrients than your average pretzel.

Smoothies: If your kid has a sweet tooth and likes shakes and candy bars, substitute those fatty food items for a fruit smoothie. There are many recipes for fruit smoothies on the internet, as well as RecipeLion for great tasting, low-fat fruit smoothies.
